SCENE 01 / 04

Bus or subway?

Yuki sets off alone to meet Minji downtown. At the bus stop, the many route numbers and heavy traffic make the subway look like the better choice.

Yuki · inner thought

오늘은 시내에서 민지 씨를 만나요. 혼자 가요!

Today I'm meeting Minji downtown. I'm going on my own!

Yuki · to herself

여기는 버스 정류장… 몇 번 버스를 타요? 버스 번호가 너무 많아요…

This is a bus stop... Which bus do I take? There are so many numbers...

Yuki · to herself

버스는 느려요. 지하철은 빨라요. 그리고 편해요. 지하철로 가요!

The bus is slow. The subway is fast and comfortable. I'll take the subway!

SCENE 02 / 04

A crowded train, a kind moment

The train is crowded. Yuki offers her seat to an older passenger and asks how long the journey takes. He tells her to change trains at the third station.

Yuki

할아버지, 여기 제 자리에 앉으세요!

Sir, please take my seat!

Yuki

할아버지, 시내까지 얼마나 걸려요?

Sir, how long does it take to get downtown?

The older passenger

약 삼십 분 정도요. 세 번째 역에서 갈아타요.

About thirty minutes. Change trains at the third station.

SCENE 03 / 04

One distraction, two stations too far

An idol advertisement catches Yuki’s eye. By the time she notices, she has passed her transfer station. The exits and long underground passage leave her farther from the meeting spot.

Yuki · inner thought

와, 이 아이돌 멋있어요…

Wow, that idol is so cool…

Yuki

어? 벌써 다섯 번째 역이에요? 세 번째 역을 그냥 지났어요!

Huh? This is already the fifth station? I went right past the third one!

Yuki

출구가 어디예요? 1번? 12번?

Where's the exit? Number 1? Number 12?

SCENE 04 / 04

A close call, then a familiar face

In her hurry, Yuki tries to cross against a red light. A driver warns her and points to the safe overpass. She finally takes a taxi, meets Minji, and suggests going back together.

The driver

학생! 위험해요! 빨간불이에요! 신호를 잘 보세요!

Hey! That's dangerous! The light is red! Watch the signals!

The driver

저기 육교가 있어요. 육교로 건너가세요. 안전해요!

There's an overpass over there. Cross using that. It's safe!

Yuki

네. 저는 운전을 못 해요. 민지 씨랑 같이 돌아가요!

Yes. I can't drive. Let's go back together, Minji!

FROM THE ORIGINAL VIDEO · LEARNING REPLAY

And, with, and a walk together.

These three review turns follow the story in the original video. They practise “and” and “with.” Yuki travels alone in the main story; the replay with a friend is separate teaching practice.

Yuki

오늘은 친구하고 같이 가요. 민지 씨와 만나요.

I'm going with a friend today. I'm meeting Minji.

Minji

버스하고 지하철이 있어요. 택시도 있어요.

There are buses and a subway. There are taxis too.

Yuki

민지 씨랑 같이 산책해요.

I'm taking a walk with Minji.

The journey was a little longer. The way home can be together.

FROM THE STORY TO YOUR OWN WORDS

A small word. A little company.

Connect two things, or say who you go with.

01

Words for getting there, together.

01FROM THE VIDEO’S LEARNING REPLAY

버스하고 지하철이 있어요.

There are buses and a subway.

Here 하고 joins two nouns: bus and subway. The replay adds 택시도 있어요 (“There are taxis too”). The quiz focuses on joining nouns, not 도.

02FROM THE VIDEO’S LEARNING REPLAY

오늘은 친구하고 같이 가요.

I'm going with a friend today.

친구 means friend; 같이 means together. Here 하고 introduces a companion. This is a teaching replay: Yuki travels alone in the main story.

03FROM THE ORIGINAL DIALOGUE

민지 씨랑 같이 돌아가요!

Let's go back together, Minji!

A line from Yuki’s final turn. 씨 ends in a vowel, so use 랑. It means “with” here. 랑 sounds conversational; the sentence still ends politely in 요.

02

Two things. Or someone to go with.

TODAY’S GRAMMAR

N과/와
하고 · (이)랑

These particles can mean “and” between nouns or “with” a companion. The whole sentence tells you which meaning fits.

After a consonant → 과 / 이랑
After a vowel → 와 / 랑
하고 → same after either ending

Attach the particle to the noun just before it: 지하철과, 친구와, 선생님이랑, 민지 씨랑. Keep a space between the name and 씨. These short form examples are added practice.

과/와 is common in writing and formal contexts; 하고 and (이)랑 are common in conversation. A casual particle does not remove the polite 요 ending. In the replay, 민지 씨와 만나요 means “I’m meeting Minji.”

TWO THINGS

BUILD IT STEP BY STEP

버스 + 하고 + 지하철 → 버스하고 지하철

FROM THE LEARNING REPLAY

버스하고 지하철이 있어요.

There are buses and a subway.

Here 하고 means “and.” It connects two transport nouns. 하고 stays the same after a consonant or a vowel.

The connecting diagram is an added learning aid; the finished sentences come from the video’s teaching replay. In 일본 전철하고 비슷해요, 하고 marks the comparison (“similar to Japanese trains”). Read that line for the story; today’s quiz focuses on “and / with” forms and 친구.
