SCENE 01 / 04

A hello around the corner

Minji shows Yuki around the neighborhood. They greet an older neighbor, spot shops nearby, and decide to stop for milk.

Minji

오늘은 우리 동네 한 바퀴!

Today, a walk around our neighborhood!

Minji

안녕하세요, 할머니! 유키 씨, 우리 이웃 할머니예요.

Hello, ma'am! Yuki, she's our neighbor.

Yuki

와, 근처에 편의점도 있어요!

Wow, there's a convenience store nearby too!

SCENE 02 / 04

Turn right—or turn around?

The destination is a bakery. Minji explains the route, but Yuki takes “turn right” a little too literally. With a laugh and another explanation, she finds the bakery.

Minji

자, 민지 선생님의 길 안내 수업! 편의점에서 빵집까지 가요.

Okay, it's Teacher Minji's directions class! We're going from the convenience store to the bakery.

Yuki

오른쪽으로 돌아요! 빙글빙글~

Turning right! Round and round~

Yuki

이 거리는 예뻐요… 똑바로, 오른쪽, 삼거리… 와! 빵집이 바로 앞에 있어요!

This street is pretty… Straight, right, three-way junction… Wow! The bakery's right in front of me!

SCENE 03 / 04

East, west, and a shared laugh

Minji turns directions into a pointing quiz. Yuki keeps mixing them up, and soon both of them are laughing.

Minji

이번에는 방향 퀴즈! 손으로 가리켜요. 동쪽은 어느 쪽이에요?

Now a direction quiz! Point with your hand. Which way is east?

Minji

땡! 거기는 서쪽이에요. 완전 반대예요!

Bzzt! That's west. The total opposite!

Minji

그쪽 아니에요! 저쪽이에요!

Not that way! Over that way!

SCENE 04 / 04

Lost downtown. Found her words.

Downtown, they see a fountain in the middle of a square. Later, the map app misbehaves as they look for a bookstore. Yuki asks a passerby for directions in Korean for the first time.

Minji

네, 여기가 도시의 중심이에요. 저기 광장 중앙에 분수가 있어요!

Yes, this is the center of the city. There's a fountain in the middle of that square!

Yuki

저, 실례합니다. 서점이 어디에 있어요?

Um, excuse me. Where's the bookstore?

Yuki

감사합니다! 민지 씨, 저 처음으로 한국어로 길을 물어봤어요!

Thank you! Minji, I just asked for directions in Korean for the first time!

FROM THE ORIGINAL VIDEO · LEARNING REPLAY

Whose bag? Whose phone?

These three review turns follow the story in the original video. They practise possession and relationships. The examples do not establish new facts about the characters’ families or belongings.

Minji

이 가방은 엄마의 가방이에요. 저 우산은 아빠의 우산이에요.

This bag is my mom's. That umbrella is my dad's.

Yuki

이건 민지 씨의 휴대폰이에요. 지도도 여기 있어요.

This is Minji's phone. The map is here too.

Minji

맞아요. 우리 가족의 사진도 있어요.

Right. There is a photo of my family too.

A little lost, a little braver. One question opens the way.

FROM THE STORY TO YOUR OWN WORDS

The little word that connects.

Say whose it is, and notice how two nouns belong together.

01

Connections from the walk.

01FROM THE ORIGINAL DIALOGUE

민지 선생님의 길 안내 수업!

Teacher Minji’s directions class!

A phrase from Minji’s introduction. 의 follows 선생님 and links the class to “Teacher Minji.” Keep the speaker’s playful self-introduction in mind.

02FROM THE VIDEO’S LEARNING REPLAY

이건 민지 씨의 휴대폰이에요.

This is Minji’s phone.

From the learning replay. The owner comes first: 민지 씨의 + 휴대폰. 이건 is short for 이것은; the quiz focuses on 의, not the contraction.

03FROM THE ORIGINAL DIALOGUE

네, 여기가 도시의 중심이에요.

Yes, this is the center of the city.

의 also connects related nouns. 도시의 중심 is the city’s center, not an object owned by a person. The next sentence puts the fountain in the middle of the square: 광장 중앙.

02

Two nouns. One little connection.

TODAY’S GRAMMAR

N1의 N2

Put the owner first, add 의, then name the belonging. 의 can also link two related nouns, as in 도시의 중심: the center of the city.

엄마의 가방 · Mom’s bag
민지 씨의 휴대폰 · Minji’s phone
도시의 중심 · the center of the city

의 stays the same after a consonant or a vowel. Attach it to the first noun, then leave a space: 엄마의 가방. With a name and 씨, write 민지 씨의 휴대폰.

In everyday speech, 의 may be left out when the relationship is clear, and it may sound like 에. Practise the written full form here. 우리 가족 can mean my family; it does not imply that the speaker and listener share a family.

BUILD THE PHRASE

엄마 + 의 + 가방 → 엄마의 가방

FROM THE LEARNING REPLAY

이 가방은 엄마의 가방이에요.

This bag is my mom’s bag.

Attach 의 to 엄마, then leave a space before 가방. The replay gives a complete sentence; the three-part diagram is an added learning aid.

The connecting diagram is an added learning aid. The finished sentences are from the original video’s teaching replay, not new facts about the characters’ belongings. Direction expressions stay in the story; the quiz focuses on 의 and a key word, 가족.
