Learn Choosing What You Want: -(으)ㄹ래요 with form rules, natural examples, common mistakes, romanization, and six practice questions with answers.
Introduction / Review
At a café or when choosing an activity with a friend, -(으)ㄹ래요 expresses your choice or willingness. In a question, it asks what the listener wants to do. It sounds personal and conversational.
N = noun; V = action verb; A = descriptive verb. Romanization is a reading aid.
Today’s Grammar / Explanation
- Vowel + ㄹ래요: 가다 → 갈래요; 마시다 → 마실래요. Consonant + 을래요: 먹다 → 먹을래요.
- Keep final ㄹ: 만들다 → 만들래요; 놀다 → 놀래요 (from 놀다, “play/hang out,” in this pattern). 듣다 → 들을래요.
- Statements normally express the speaker’s intention; questions ask the listener’s intention. Add 안 for a negative choice: 안 갈래요.
