SCENE 01 / 04

Open the window. Spring is here.

Yuki opens her window to a warm morning. Minji talks about Korea’s four seasons, and Yuki has the perfect reason to go outside: a class picnic.

Yuki smiling through her open window on a warm spring morning, from the original Episode 16 video.

Yuki

Wow! The weather is so warm today!

Minji

Spring is finally here. Korea has four seasons. Spring, summer, fall, winter!

Yuki

The sky is clear and the sunlight sparkles!

SCENE 02 / 04

A picnic, a bicycle, and strawberries.

The class gathers in the park. Yuki follows Lucas on a bike, takes a tumble, and decides a walk will do. Then Amina brings out the strawberries.

Amina, Yuki, Lucas, and Théo enjoying their picnic together.

Yuki

I came to the park with my classmates. This is so great!

Yuki

Ow… I'll just go for a walk.

Yuki

Wow, they're so red — they look delicious!

SCENE 03 / 04

Spring flowers. A summer flower in a photo.

Flowers bloom and birds sing. Théo introduces mugunghwa with a photo and explains that it blooms in summer. Lucas has one practical question: so there are none here now?

Yuki and Amina admiring spring blossoms in the park.

Amina

So many flowers are in bloom. The trees are green and pretty too!

Théo

Mugunghwa blooms in summer. Look at this picture. The flowers are pink.

SCENE 04 / 04

A little water. A little spring to take home.

Back at the guesthouse, Mrs. Park helps Yuki plant seeds and reminds her not to overwater them. She gives Yuki a flower from her garden, bringing a little spring into Yuki’s room.

Yuki planting flower seeds with Mrs. Park in the garden.

Yuki

Like this? It's my first time planting flower seeds!

Yuki

Okay! Just a little.

Yuki

Thank you! I'll put it in my vase!

Yuki · to herself

Spring has come to my room, too!

Théo shows mugunghwa in a photo and says it blooms in summer. The flower Mrs. Park gives Yuki comes from her garden; it is not a flower that has just grown from Yuki’s seeds.

FROM THE EPISODE SCRIPT · LEARNING REPLAY

Warm weather. Green trees. A kind neighbor.

These three turns come from the episode script’s learning replay. The linked videos finish with six vocabulary cards and do not include this spoken replay. Practise these lines here after reading the story.

Yuki

It's spring. The weather is warm and the sky is clear.

Amina

The trees are tall and the flowers are pretty.

Yuki

Mrs. Park is kind and fun. We plant flower seeds together.

A little spring, all the way home.

FROM THE STORY TO YOUR OWN WORDS

Let one thought grow into two.

Connect what you see with -고. Add a little more with -고요.

01

A clear sky. Green trees. A kind heart.

01FROM THE ORIGINAL DIALOGUE

The sky is clear and the sunlight sparkles!

Yuki connects two descriptions with -고. Start from 맑다: remove 다 and add 고 → 맑고. 반짝반짝 describes repeated sparkling.

02FROM THE ORIGINAL DIALOGUE

The trees are green and pretty too!

Amina adds another spring sight with 도 (“too”). 푸르다 becomes 푸르고 before -고; the 르 stays. The polite ending comes at the end: 예뻐요.

03FROM THE SCRIPT’S LEARNING REPLAY

Mrs. Park is kind and fun.

From the script’s learning replay. 친절하다 becomes 친절하고, joining two qualities of Mrs. Park. Use the dictionary stem 친절하-, not the polite form 친절해요.

Two thoughts, one small connection.

TODAY’S GRAMMAR

Connect actions or descriptions with -고. Add a related fact politely with -고요. The same stem works for both.

CONNECT · ANDV/A stem +

ADD · AND ALSOV/A stem +

Remove 다 from the dictionary form and attach 고. No consonant/vowel choice is needed: 파다 → 파고, 맑다 → 맑고, 친절하다 → 친절하고.

Keep the stem before Do not start with the polite -아요/어요 form. The final predicate ends the connected sentence politely.

-고 can list facts or actions. Context may suggest “and then”; it does not always mean a sequence or give a reason. -고요 works as a related addition in a conversation.

CONNECT TWO IDEAS

FROM THE ORIGINAL DIALOGUE

The sky is clear and the sunlight sparkles!

One clear sky and sparkling sunlight: two descriptions joined with “and.”

The sky and tree examples are original lines; the warm-weather and kindness examples come from the script’s learning replay. Planting and -고요 are added practice. The moving illustrations explain the grammar.
