SCENE 01 / 04
The table is full. So is the welcome.
Mrs. Park serves breakfast: rice, soup, rolled omelet, and seaweed. Yuki looks at the full bowls and plates—and suddenly feels very hungry.
Mrs. Park

Come sit at the table. Let's have breakfast!
さあ、食卓に座って。朝ご飯を食べましょう!
Yuki

Minji

The side dishes are rolled omelet and seaweed. There's warm soup too.
The story moves from breakfast to dinner. The tastes belong to different foods: spicy and sour kimchi, bland soup, and bitter coffee that turns sweet with sugar.

FROM THE STORY TO YOUR OWN WORDS
Bring this moment into words.
Use -고 있어요 to describe an action happening now.
01
At the table, a few words go a long way.
01FROM THE ORIGINAL DIALOGUE
잘 먹겠습니다!
Thank you for the meal!
A set phrase before eating, expressing appreciation for the meal. Learn it as a whole here; the ending -겠습니다 is not a grammar target for this episode.
Say that an action is in progress. At the table, someone is cooking, someone is eating, and someone is drinking.
BUILD THE FORMV stem + 고 있어요
먹다 → 먹 + 고 있어요 먹고 있어요
AN ACTION IN PROGRESS지금 밥을 먹고 있어요.
I am eating now.
Remove 다 from the dictionary form, then add 고 있어요. Keep a space between 고 and 있어요: 요리하다 → 요리하고 있어요; 마시다 → 마시고 있어요.
매일 아침 밥을 먹어요 describes a routine because of “every morning.” 지금 밥을 먹고 있어요 focuses on eating in progress. The simple present 먹어요 can also describe a present situation, depending on context.
Use action verbs in these examples. A taste is a state: 김치가 매워요 (“The kimchi is spicy”). Do not turn 맵다 into 매워고 있어요.
HAPPENING NOW
요리하고 있어요
요리하다 → 요리하고 있어요
FROM THE SCRIPT’S LEARNING REPLAY
지금 요리하고 있어요. 밥은 여기 있어요.
I'm cooking now. The rice is here.
요리하다 → 요리하 + 고 있어요. Keep 하 before 고; leave a space before 있어요.
Coffee is an exact sentence from the story. Cooking, eating, and water come from the script’s learning replay. “Every morning” and “Right now” are added comparison examples; they do not establish a character’s routine.
