SCENE 01 / 04
8:50—and class starts at nine
Yuki sleeps through the alarm. Mrs. Park calls her “Snowflake” and wakes her up, leaving just ten minutes before class.

FROM THE STORY TO YOUR OWN WORDS
Your everyday, in a few Korean words.
Talk about your routine and how you feel with everyday polite endings.
01
From waking up to winding down.
01FROM THE VIDEO’S LEARNING REPLAY
일어나요. 씻어요. 밥을 먹어요.
I get up, wash, and eat.
From the learning replay, not Yuki’s actual breakfast that morning. 일어나다 → 일어나요, 씻다 → 씻어요, 먹다 → 먹어요 make a simple morning routine.
Junho is giving Yuki advice here. 자요 can be a statement, question, or gentle suggestion depending on context and intonation. In a routine, 밤에 일찍 자요 can mean “I go to bed early at night.”
Use -아/어요 with verbs for actions and adjectives for states. Remove 다, then look at the last vowel of the stem. This is polite language for everyday conversation.
Last vowel ㅏ or ㅗ → 아요 일어나다 → 일어나요 / 자다 → 자요 Other vowels → 어요 먹다 → 먹어요 / 씻다 → 씻어요 하다 → 해요 피곤하다 → 피곤해요
Some vowels merge: 일어나 + 아요 → 일어나요. 보다 becomes 봐요, as in 드라마를 봐요. You can ask with the same ending and question intonation: 피곤해요?
DICTIONARY FORM → ENDING
일어나다 → 일어나 + 아요
SAY IT IN EVERYDAY KOREAN
일어나요.
I get up.
The last stem vowel is ㅏ. Choose 아요; the two 아 sounds merge: 일어나 + 아요 → 일어나요. 자다 follows the same pattern: 자요.
The form-building diagrams are added learning aids using expressions from the story and replay. Habits, current states, and gentle suggestions depend on context. The past tense in Yuki’s diary and greetings such as 다녀오겠습니다 are for story comprehension, not this quiz. Irregular stems need separate practice.
