SCENE 01 / 04

A whole library. A very small voice.

Théo shows Yuki how to search for books on a computer and borrow them. Five books at a time, returned two weeks later: the rules sound simple. The silence takes a little more getting used to.

Théo showing Yuki the library computer and checkout desk. Original Episode 14 artwork.

Yuki

와아! 여기가 도서관이에요?

Whoa! This is the library?

Théo

먼저 컴퓨터로 책을 찾아요. 그리고 저기에서 빌려요.

First you search for a book on the computer. Then you borrow it over there.

Théo

한 번에 다섯 권까지예요. 그리고 2주 뒤에 돌려줘요.

Up to five at a time. And you give them back two weeks later.

SCENE 02 / 04

Professor Théo has a dictionary lesson.

Find a word, read its meaning, and make a note with a pencil. Yuki learns how the Hangeul order helps her find 무엇. Théo is ready to add some history, but that can wait.

Yuki writing in her notebook while Théo holds a Korean dictionary.

Théo · in his teacher voice

이 단어를 몰라요? 그럼 사전에서 찾아보세요.

Don't know this word? Then look it up in the dictionary.

Théo

단어를 찾아요. 그리고 뜻을 읽어요. 연필로 수첩에 메모해요.

Find the word and read its meaning. Write a note in your notebook with a pencil.

Yuki

아, 찾았어요! '무엇'. 뜻은… 'what'! 테오 씨, 최고예요!

Oh, I found it! "Mueot." It means… "what"! Théo, you're the best!

SCENE 03 / 04

One drama. Two laughs. One reminder.

Amina arrives and brings up last night’s drama. Soon she and Yuki are laughing. The librarian asks them to keep it down because other students are studying. They apologize, then try very hard not to laugh again.

The librarian asking Yuki and Amina to be quiet while Théo looks on.

The librarian

학생들, 너무 떠들어요. 지금 다른 학생들이 공부 중이에요.

Students, you're being too loud. Other students are studying right now.

The librarian

조용히 해 주세요.

Please keep it down.

Yuki & Amina

죄송합니다…

We're sorry…

SCENE 04 / 04

Start with two pages.

Théo recommends a novel with an easy title and a difficult story. Yuki decides to start with just two pages, then explores magazines and newspapers. On the way out, Théo suggests a bookstore next time. Amina has one question: can they talk there?

Yuki puzzled by the novel while Théo points to the opening pages.

Yuki · to herself

제목은 쉬워요. 그런데 내용은 너무 어려워요…

The title's easy. But the story is way too hard…

Yuki

테오 씨, 오늘은 이 책의 일부만 읽을게요. 첫 두 쪽부터요.

Theo, I'll read just part of this book today. I'll start with the first two pages.

Théo

…작은 목소리로요.

…Quietly.

The five-book limit and two-week loan are rules in this story. Théo’s unfinished remark about dictionary history is character dialogue, not a complete historical explanation.

FROM THE EPISODE SCRIPT · LEARNING REPLAY

By bus, with a computer, to the right.

These three review turns come from the revised script. The linked webtoon videos end with vocabulary cards, so this replay is offered here as reading and speaking practice. It adds transport and directions to the library theme.

Yuki

도서관에 버스로 가요. 테오 씨는 지하철로 가요?

I go to the library by bus. Do you go by subway, Theo?

Théo

네. 도서관 안에서는 오른쪽으로 가요. 그다음에 왼쪽으로 가요.

Yes. Inside the library, go right, then left.

Yuki

컴퓨터로 책을 찾아요. 여기에서 책을 빌려요.

I search on the computer. I borrow books here.

Two pages are a beginning. A small voice is a good idea.

FROM THE STORY TO YOUR OWN WORDS

Find your way. Find your words.

Use (으)로 for a method, a tool, or a direction.

01

Search, make a note, choose a direction.

01FROM THE ORIGINAL DIALOGUE

컴퓨터로 책을 찾아요.

I search for books on the computer.

From Théo’s explanation in scene 1, without 먼저. 컴퓨터로 identifies the tool used to search; 책을 is what you search for.

Back to scene 01 ↗
02FROM THE ORIGINAL DIALOGUE

연필로 수첩에 메모해요.

I make a note in my notebook with a pencil.

From scene 2. 연필 ends in ㄹ, so add 로, not 으로. The pencil is the tool; the notebook is where the note goes.

Back to scene 02 ↗
03FROM THE SCRIPT’S LEARNING REPLAY

오른쪽으로 가요.

Go to the right.

From the script’s learning replay. 오른쪽 ends in ㄱ, so use 으로. This is a direction in a practice scene, not a real library map.

02

How you travel. What you use. Which way you go.

TODAY’S GRAMMAR

N(으)로

One particle for a travel method, a tool, or a direction. The meaning comes from the noun and the sentence. Choose 로 or 으로 from the end of the noun.

NO FINAL CONSONANT → 로버스 → 버스로 · 컴퓨터 → 컴퓨터로
FINAL ㄹ → 로지하철 → 지하철로 · 연필 → 연필로
OTHER FINAL CONSONANT → 으로오른쪽 → 오른쪽으로

Attach the particle directly to the noun. ㄹ is the exception: 지하철로 and 연필로. For 왼쪽 and 오른쪽, final ㄱ requires 으로.

도서관에 버스로 가요: 도서관에 tells us the destination; 버스로 tells us the travel method. With 가요, 에 and (으)로 can overlap for destinations and direction. For the simple location “I am at the library,” use 도서관에 있어요.

English “with” is not always (으)로. 연필로 uses a tool; 친구하고 같이 가요 means going with a person. Other uses of (으)로 exist; today focuses on these three.

TRANSPORT

No final consonant → 로

FROM THE SCRIPT’S LEARNING REPLAY

도서관에 버스로 가요.

I go to the library by bus.

버스 tells us how to travel; 도서관에 gives the destination. The replay supplies this practice journey.

The moving pictures are added learning illustrations. The directions are isolated from the script replay: right, then left. They are not a map or travel instructions for an actual library.
