SCENE 01 / 04
A whole library. A very small voice.
Théo shows Yuki how to search for books on a computer and borrow them. Five books at a time, returned two weeks later: the rules sound simple. The silence takes a little more getting used to.
Yuki
와아! 여기가 도서관이에요?
Whoa! This is the library?
わあ!ここが図書館?
waa! yeogiga doseogwanieyo?
Théo · holding a finger to his lips
쉿! 여기는 아주 조용해요.

Yuki
도서관 이용, 쉬워요!
Using the library is easy!
図書館の使い方、簡単!
Yuki · thinking
너무 조용해요… 숨도 조심해요. 흡!
It's so quiet… I have to be careful even breathing. Hup!
すごく静か…息をするのも気をつけなきゃ。うっ!
SCENE 02 / 04
Professor Théo has a dictionary lesson.
Find a word, read its meaning, and make a note with a pencil. Yuki learns how the Hangeul order helps her find 무엇. Théo is ready to add some history, but that can wait.
Théo
오늘은 제가 사전 선생님이에요.
Today, I'm your dictionary teacher.
今日は僕が辞書の先生だよ。
Théo · in his teacher voice
이 단어를 몰라요? 그럼 사전에서 찾아보세요.
Don't know this word? Then look it up in the dictionary.
この単語がわかりませんか。では、辞書で調べてください。
i daneoreul mollayo? geureom sajeoneseo chajaboseyo.
Yuki
네, 테오 선생님!
Yes, Professor Théo!
はい、テオ先生!
Théo
단어를 찾아요. 그리고 뜻을 읽어요. 연필로 수첩에 메모해요.
Find the word and read its meaning. Write a note in your notebook with a pencil.
単語を探して意味を読みます。鉛筆で手帳にメモします。
daneoreul chajayo. geurigo tteuseul ilgeoyo. yeonpillo sucheobe memohaeyo.
Yuki
좋아요. 그럼 '무엇'을 찾아요. '무엇'은 어디에 있어요?
Okay. Then I'll find "mueot." Where's "mueot"?
よし。じゃあ「ムオッ」を探す。「ムオッ」はどこにあるの?
Théo
한글 글자는 순서가 있어요. ㄱ, ㄴ, ㄷ, ㄹ, ㅁ… 'ㅁ'은 여기부터예요.
Hangul letters have an order: giyeok, nieun, digeut, rieul, mieum… Mieum starts here.
ハングルには順番があります。キヨク、ニウン、ティグッ、リウル、ミウム…「ミウム」はここからです。
Yuki
아, 찾았어요! '무엇'. 뜻은… 'what'! 테오 씨, 최고예요!
Oh, I found it! "Mueot." It means… "what"! Théo, you're the best!
あ、あった!「ムオッ」。意味は…「なに」!テオさん、最高!
a, chajasseoyo! mueot. tteuseun… what! Teo ssi, choegoyeyo!
Théo · pushing up his glasses
사실 한국어 사전은 1930년대에…
Actually, the Korean dictionary goes back to the 1930s…
実は、韓国語の辞書は1930年代に…
Yuki
테오 씨, 그건 다음에요!
Théo, save that for next time!
テオさん、それはまた今度!
SCENE 03 / 04
One drama. Two laughs. One reminder.
Amina arrives and brings up last night’s drama. Soon she and Yuki are laughing. The librarian asks them to keep it down because other students are studying. They apologize, then try very hard not to laugh again.
Amina
유키 씨! 테오 씨! 여기 있었어요!
Yuki! Théo! There you are!
ユキ!テオ!ここにいたんだ!
Yuki
아미나 씨! 쉿!

Yuki
봤어요, 봤어요! 하하하!
I did, I did! Hahaha!
見た見た!あはは!
Théo · quietly
두 사람… 대화는 밖에서 해요…
You two… take the chatting outside…
二人とも…おしゃべりは外でして…
The librarian
학생들, 너무 떠들어요. 지금 다른 학생들이 공부 중이에요.
Students, you're being too loud. Other students are studying right now.
学生さんたち、うるさすぎますよ。今、ほかの学生が勉強中です。

I need to be quiet. But I keep wanting to laugh. I'll keep my mouth shut!
静かにしないといけません。でも、つい笑ってしまいます。口をしっかり閉じよう!
Théo
…아이고.
…Oh, boy.
…はあ、もう。
SCENE 04 / 04
Start with two pages.
Théo recommends a novel with an easy title and a difficult story. Yuki decides to start with just two pages, then explores magazines and newspapers. On the way out, Théo suggests a bookstore next time. Amina has one question: can they talk there?
Théo
한국 소설이에요. 저는 이 책을 정말 좋아해요. 독서는 한국어 공부에 아주 좋아요.
It's a Korean novel. I really love this book. Reading is great for learning Korean.
韓国の小説だよ。僕、この本が大好きなんだ。読書は韓国語の勉強にすごくいいよ。
Yuki
제목은 쉬워요. '봄날'! 좋아요, 읽을 거예요.
The title's easy. "Spring Day"! Okay, I'm going to read it.
タイトルは簡単。「春の日」!よし、読んでみる。
Yuki · to herself
제목은 쉬워요. 그런데 내용은 너무 어려워요…
The title's easy. But the story is way too hard…
タイトルは簡単。でも、内容がすごく難しい…
jemogeun swiwoyo. geureonde naeyongeun neomu eoryeowoyo…
Yuki
테오 씨, 오늘은 이 책의 일부만 읽을게요. 첫 두 쪽부터요.
Theo, I'll read just part of this book today. I'll start with the first two pages.
テオさん、今日はこの本の一部だけ読みます。最初の2ページからです。
Teo ssi, oneureun i chaegui ilbuman ilgeulgeyo. cheot du jjokbuteoyo.
Yuki · to herself
역시 잡지가 좋아요! 사진이 많아요! 신문도 사진이 있어요!
Magazines are the best! Lots of pictures! Newspapers have pictures too!
やっぱり雑誌がいい!写真がいっぱい!新聞にも写真がある!
Théo
다음에는 같이 서점에 가요. 좋은 글이 많아요. 공부에 도움이 돼요.
Next time, let's go to a bookstore together. There's lots of good writing. It'll help your studies.
今度は一緒に本屋に行こう。いい文章がたくさんあるよ。勉強の助けになる。
Amina
서점에서는 이야기해요?
Can we talk in a bookstore?
本屋ではしゃべっていいの?
Théo
…작은 목소리로요.
…Quietly.
…小さい声でね。
…jageun moksoriroyo.
The five-book limit and two-week loan are rules in this story. Théo’s unfinished remark about dictionary history is character dialogue, not a complete historical explanation.
FROM THE EPISODE SCRIPT · LEARNING REPLAY
By bus, with a computer, to the right.
These three review turns come from the revised script. The linked webtoon videos end with vocabulary cards, so this replay is offered here as reading and speaking practice. It adds transport and directions to the library theme.
Yuki
도서관에 버스로 가요. 테오 씨는 지하철로 가요?
I go to the library by bus. Do you go by subway, Theo?
図書館にバスで行きます。テオさんは地下鉄で行きますか。
Théo
네. 도서관 안에서는 오른쪽으로 가요. 그다음에 왼쪽으로 가요.
Yes. Inside the library, go right, then left.
はい。図書館の中では右へ行きます。それから左へ行きます。
Yuki
컴퓨터로 책을 찾아요. 여기에서 책을 빌려요.
I search on the computer. I borrow books here.
パソコンで本を探します。ここで本を借ります。
Two pages are a beginning. A small voice is a good idea.
