SCENE 01 / 04

A test already?

Hyeju announces midterm exam week and asks everyone to review. There is homework too. Yuki imagines a night without sleep, while Lucas seems less surprised.

Yuki looking surprised at the exam announcement. Original Episode 13 artwork.

Yuki

네? 시험이요? 벌써요?

What? A test? Already?

Hyeju, the teacher

네. 이번 시험은 아주 중요해요. 반드시 복습하세요.

Yes. This test is really important. Be sure to review.

Hyeju, the teacher

예습도 좋아요. 그리고… 숙제도 있어요!

Studying ahead is good too. And… there's homework, too!

SCENE 02 / 04

One more card. One less hour of sleep.

Yuki studies at home while messages arrive from Théo and Lucas. Théo has studied for three hours; Lucas does a little at a time and says good night. By four in the morning, Yuki still feels unprepared.

Yuki studying vocabulary cards at her desk at night.

Yuki · to herself

좋아요! 저녁마다 열심히 공부해요. 매일 단어를 외워요!

Okay! I study hard every evening. I memorize words every day!

Lucas · group chat message

저는 조금씩 해요. 잘 자요.

I just do a little at a time. Good night.

Yuki · to herself

벌써 새벽이에요? 그런데 아직 반도 못 외웠어요…

It's already dawn? And I still haven't memorized even half…

SCENE 03 / 04

The answer is somewhere in there.

During the test, familiar words suddenly feel out of reach. Yuki takes a deep breath and tries again. Her pen starts moving, and she finally finishes.

Yuki trying to recall an answer as vocabulary cards fade in her imagination.

Yuki · thinking

어? 단어는 머릿속에 있어요. 그런데 답이 생각 안 나요!

Huh? I know the words, but I can't remember the answer!

Yuki · thinking

아니에요! 유키, 다시 해요. 힘을 다해요!

No! Come on, Yuki, try again. Give it everything you've got!

Yuki · to herself

끝! 드디어 시험을 마쳤어요!

Done! I finally finished the test!

SCENE 04 / 04

More right answers than she expected.

A week later, Yuki gets her paper back. Three answers are wrong, but many are right, and her overall grade has improved. The report says she passed. Then Théo starts a very long explanation.

Hyeju returning the test papers one week later.

Yuki · with her eyes half closed

무서워요… 어? 세 개는 틀렸어요. 그런데 많이 맞았어요!

I'm scared… Huh? I got three wrong. But I got lots right!

Hyeju, the teacher

유키 씨, 답이 아주 정확해요. 전체 성적도 지난번보다 좋아요.

Yuki, your answers are very accurate. Your overall grade is better than last time, too.

Lucas

테오 씨, 길어요.

Théo. Too long.

The late-night studying is part of the story, not a recommended routine. Hyeju reads the formal 그러므로 sentence from the report. The passing score belongs to this story; Yuki’s exact score is not stated.

FROM THE EPISODE SCRIPT · LEARNING REPLAY

A test on Monday. A little review every day.

These three review turns come from the revised episode script. The linked webtoon videos end with a vocabulary card, so these sentences are provided here as reading and speaking practice. The replay sets an exam on Monday and explicitly says it is not every Monday.

Yuki

월요일에 시험이 있어요. 매일 복습해요.

I have an exam on Monday. I review every day.

Théo

저는 아침에 공부해요. 저녁마다 단어를 외워요.

I study in the morning and memorize words every evening.

Yuki

저도 저녁에 복습해요. 월요일마다 시험은 아니에요!

I review in the evening too. We don't have an exam every Monday!

Three mistakes. Plenty of progress. And one explanation that can wait.

FROM THE STORY TO YOUR OWN WORDS

A time to study. A habit to keep.

Use 에 for when and 마다 to make repetition clear.

01

A day, an evening, a daily habit.

01FROM THE SCRIPT’S LEARNING REPLAY

월요일에 시험이 있어요.

I have an exam on Monday.

From the script’s learning replay. 월요일에 tells us when the exam is. It does not say there is an exam every Monday.

02FROM THE ORIGINAL DIALOGUE

저녁마다 열심히 공부해요.

I study hard every evening.

Part of Yuki’s first line in scene 2. 마다 makes the repetition explicit: every evening. Attach it directly to 저녁.

Back to scene 02 ↗
03FROM THE SCRIPT’S LEARNING REPLAY

매일 복습해요.

I review every day.

From the script’s learning replay. 매일 already means “every day.” In this basic sentence, use it as it is, without 에 or another 마다.

Back to the learning replay ↗
02

When it happens. When it happens again.

TODAY’S GRAMMAR

시간 + 에
시간 + 마다

에 answers “when?” 마다 makes “every” or “each” explicit. The time word and the activity can stay the same while the focus changes.

저녁에 단어를 외워요.I memorize words in the evening.
저녁마다 단어를 외워요.I memorize words every evening.

에 does not mean “only once.” A sentence with 에 can describe a regular habit in context. 마다 states the repetition directly.

Write the particle right after the time word: 월요일에, 아침마다, 저녁마다. The form does not change after a consonant or vowel. In this pattern, choose 에 or 마다; do not combine them as 에마다.

Use 오늘, 내일, 어제, 지금, and 매일 without 에 in ordinary beginner sentences: 오늘 공부해요. 매일 복습해요. 매일 already means “every day,” so it needs no extra 마다 here.

The last episode used 에 with places. This episode uses it with time. 월요일에 교실에서 공부해요 combines when (Monday) and where an activity happens (the classroom). This is an added example.

WHEN THE ACTIVITY HAPPENS

A time is highlighted. Repetition is not specified.

ADDED PRACTICE EXAMPLE

월요일에 복습해요.

I review on Monday.

에 tells us when. This illustration highlights one Monday in an imagined plan; the sentence itself does not limit reviewing to just one Monday.

The calendar is an added learning illustration. One highlighted occurrence helps show “when”; it does not prove the activity happens only once. The Monday review routine is an added example. In the script’s replay, the exam is on Monday, but not every Monday.
03

Check the form. Make it yours.

PRACTICE 01

This exercise refers to the exam on the coming Monday, without saying it repeats. Which particle fits?월요일___ 시험이 있어요.

Choose an answer to see why.

PRACTICE 02

Choose the form that explicitly means “every evening.”저녁___ 단어를 외워요.

Choose an answer to see why.

PRACTICE 03

Choose the natural basic sentence for “I review every day.”

Choose an answer to see why.

0 of 3 correct.

When do you make a little time?

Choose 아침, 저녁, or 월요일. Write one realistic sentence with 에 to say when, or 마다 to say every time: 저는 ___에 공부해요. / 저는 ___마다 복습해요. A small routine is enough.
