12 highlighted dialogue turns.

SCENE 01 / 04

One language. Two number systems.

Hyeju introduces native Korean numbers. The class counts, claps, and sings together. Lucas discovers that a number song can be very hard to forget.

Hyeju and the class counting together. Original Episode 12 artwork.

Hyeju, the teacher

여러분, 한국어에는 숫자가 두 가지 있어요.

Everyone, Korean has two kinds of numbers.

Hyeju, the teacher

먼저 하나, 둘, 셋, 넷, 다섯! 따라 하세요.

First: hana, dul, set, net, daseot! Repeat after me.

Amina · excitedly

여섯, 일곱, 여덟, 아홉, 열!

Yeoseot, ilgop, yeodeol, ahop, yeol!

SCENE 02 / 04

Il, i, sam—and two ways to say zero.

Next come Sino-Korean numbers. A phone number usually uses 공 for zero, while zero points is 영 점. Amina is surprised; Yuki finds a familiar sound in 백.

The class repeating the Sino-Korean numbers six through ten.

Hyeju, the teacher

이번에는 다른 숫자예요. 일, 이, 삼, 사, 오!

This time, the other numbers. Il, i, sam, sa, o!

Hyeju, the teacher

전화번호의 0은 보통 '공'으로 읽어요. 0점은 '영 점'이에요.

We usually read zero in phone numbers as gong. Zero points is yeong jeom.

Amina

네? 둘 다 써요? 와, 어려워요!

What? You use both? Wow, that's hard!

SCENE 03 / 04

Twenty-two, twenty… and a secret.

Amina is twenty-two. Yuki asks why twenty becomes 스무 before 살. Hyeju explains number forms before counters, then keeps her own age a secret as the guesses get higher.

Hyeju showing 한 개, 두 개, 세 명, and 네 명 on the board.

Hyeju, the teacher

아미나 씨, 몇 살이에요?

Amina, how old are you?

Amina

스물두 살이에요!

I'm twenty-two!

Hyeju, the teacher

뒤에 '살', '개', '명'이 와요? 그럼 모양이 바뀌어요. 한 개, 두 개, 세 명, 네 명!

When "sal," "gae," or "myeong" comes after, the shape changes. Han gae, du gae, se myeong, ne myeong!

SCENE 04 / 04

One more answer for the win.

Théo answers quietly, and Yuki joins in with 서른. The team reaches 48 points. What comes after ninety-nine? Their next answer takes them over the winning line.

Hyeju asking the class for the third number after ten and twenty.

Théo · quietly

십오.

Fifteen.

Yuki

서른이에요!

It's thirty!

Hyeju, the teacher

정답! 드디어 50점을 넘었어요! 우승이에요!

Correct! You finally went over 50 points! You win!

Hyeju never gives her real age in this story. The rising guesses are a joke. Read the stated numbers in the dialogue; the artwork is not an exercise in counting people or cards.

FROM THE EPISODE SCRIPT · LEARNING REPLAY

Be there. Learn there. Go there.

The revised episode script includes these three review turns. The linked webtoon videos finish with a vocabulary card, so the review is provided here as reading and speaking practice. The library and café examples are separate learning scenes, not new events in the classroom story.

Hyeju, the teacher

여기는 학교예요. 학생들은 교실에 있어요.

This is our school. The students are in the classroom.

Yuki

교실에서 숫자를 배워요. 카드 두 개가 있어요.

We learn numbers in the classroom. There are two cards.

Théo

도서관에서 책을 읽어요. 그다음에 카페에 가요.

I read at the library. Then I go to a café.

A quiet answer. A shared victory. Numbers that finally feel like a game.

FROM THE STORY TO YOUR OWN WORDS

Where you are. What you do there.

Use 에 and 에서 to connect a place with its meaning.

01

Three ways to talk about a place.

01FROM THE SCRIPT’S LEARNING REPLAY

학생들은 교실에 있어요.

The students are in the classroom.

From the script’s learning replay. 교실에 says where the students are. Here, 있어요 describes their location.

02FROM THE SCRIPT’S LEARNING REPLAY

교실에서 숫자를 배워요.

We learn numbers in the classroom.

The same room, but now we say what happens there. Learning is an activity, so use 교실에서.

03FROM THE SCRIPT’S LEARNING REPLAY

그다음에 카페에 가요.

Then I go to a café.

카페에 marks the destination of 가요. The script’s replay is a separate practice scene, not an extra trip added to the classroom story.

02

Same place. A different meaning.

TODAY’S GRAMMAR

장소 +
에 / 에서

Ask what the sentence tells you: where someone is, where they are going, or where they do something. The place can stay the same while the particle changes.

교실에 있어요.Location · I am in the classroom.
교실에 가요.Destination · I go to the classroom.
교실에서 숫자를 배워요.Activity · We learn numbers in the classroom.

Attach 에 or 에서 directly to the place name: 교실에, 교실에서. Neither particle changes after a consonant or vowel: 도서관에, 카페에.

For today, 에 marks a destination with 가요 or a location with 있어요 / 없어요. 에서 marks the setting of an activity such as learning or reading. Do not use “movement = 에” as a rule for every sentence: 에서 can also mark a starting point, meaning “from.”

Number review: 하나·둘·셋·넷 become 한·두·세·네 before counters. Twenty directly before 살 is 스무 살; twenty-two is 스물두 살. Not every number changes. Today’s quiz focuses on places, not memorising all the numbers.

LOCATION · BE THERE

FROM THE SCRIPT’S LEARNING REPLAY

학생들은 교실에 있어요.

The students are in the classroom.

Here, 있어요 tells us where someone is. Attach 에 directly to the place name.

This diagram is added learning material. A person stays at the place, moves toward it, or does an activity there. It is a simplified grammar illustration, not an extra scene or a count of the story’s characters. The sentence labels distinguish script excerpts from added examples.
