Future Plans: -(으)ㄹ 거예요
Describe future plans with -(으)ㄹ 거예요, distinguish plans from predictions, and practice forms, spacing, and natural sentences.
Introduction & Review
Say what you plan to do this weekend or during vacation. -(으)ㄹ 거예요 is a common conversational form for future plans and predictions. Today, start with your own intentional plans.
N = noun; V = action verb; A = descriptive verb. Romanization is a reading aid.
Today’s Grammar / Explanation
Vowel-final stem + ㄹ 거예요: 가다 → 갈 거예요; 공부하다 → 공부할 거예요. Consonant + 을 거예요: 먹다 → 먹을 거예요.
Final ㄹ stays: 살다 → 살 거예요; 만들다 → 만들 거예요. Irregulars include 듣다 → 들을 거예요 and 걷다 → 걸을 거예요.
Keep spaces: 갈 거예요. The written form is 거예요, not 거에요 or 꺼예요, even though pronunciation may sound stronger.

Common mistakes
내일 비가 올 거예요 predicts rain; it does not give the rain an intention. For your own plan, a future time word plus a voluntary verb is a clear starting point. In a question, 뭐 할 거예요? asks about someone’s plan.
만나 ends in a vowel → ㄹ 거예요: 만날 거예요.
읽 ends in a consonant → 을 거예요.
Stems ending in ㄹ just add 거예요: 만들 거예요.
거 is a separate word, so put a space: 갈 거예요.
